Mass Ascendo Ad Klavier - Three Disparate Pieces for Treated Pianos

Composer and songwriter Brent Goodbar teams up with Alan Herrick of Nux Vomica to create a suite of uniquely disparate pieces for treated piano. This process was started with two treated pianos which were banged, filled with nails, struck with wood, maimed with steel rods, laden with tacks, and generally abused at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Following the recording of the source material from the treated pianos the first track, produced by Alan Herrick utilized nothing but the original sounds collages and arranged into an ominous industrial soundscape. The second track composed entirely by Brent Goodbar utilized the treated piano samples as an eerie backdrop to an orchestrated and involved horror movie soundtrack. The third and final piece was basiclaly "generated" by taking the first track created by Alan Herrick and "feeding" it to SoundHack, a soundfile processing program for the Macintosh. By presenting a small collection of sampled, orchestrated, and processed pieces this suite begs you to look at music and sound in various ways that few single releases allow.
